Added: Hoover's First Research Industry Profiles

The library is happy to announce the add-on of Hoover's First Research Industry Profiles. It's located within Hoovers.

This is an industry survey style business database that breaks down the structure of an industry and its current challenges and opportunities.

The reason we acquired Hoover's First Research Industry Profiles is the context that it gives to the industry information. Hoover's explains the overall nature of the industry, specific terms, the raw materials the industry requires, and the typical capitalization and profitability of the industry. Then, it discusses current opportunities and threats that industry faces. We also found the categories of industries to be more up to date than some other databases. It's a winner.

Compare to the industry and market data inside Business and Company Resource Center, Business Insights, Marketline, Market Research and Standard and Poor's. These are all good, but Hoover's brings some much needed context to the table.

New Database: Encyclopedia Britannica Online

Alkek Library has just added Encyclopedia Britannica Online to its array of databases. Besides the in-depth encyclopedia articles, the online version of the popular 32-volume print encyclopedia includes many additional resources :

Library Acquires Two New JSTOR Collections, Arts & Sciences V and Business II

JSTOR has been Alkek Library's most used database for several years in a row, and we are happy to announce that the Library has acquired two new collections, Arts & Sciences V and Business II. JSTOR is not a current issue database but instead provides access to complete runs of back issues, frequently to volume 1 of the journal.

Arts & Sciences V will provide access to older issues of core scholarly titles in philosophy, history, classics, religion, art, and language and literature. Journals include The Bulletin of the Museum of Modern Art, Design Quarterly, Environmental History, Film History, The Hudson Review, Hypatia, Journal of Folklore Research, Journal of Modern Literature, Research in African Literatures, and Victorian Studies. When complete in 2009, the collection will include 120 journals.

The Business II Collection expands JSTOR's coverage of economics and finance, and introduces journals focused on administration and marketing, including the flagship journals of the American Marketing Association. Business II also includes a number of journals that explore the intersections between economics and law, policy, and psychology. Several core international business titles are also included:

Library Adds Anatomy.tv, an Interactive 3D Model of Human Anatomy

Anatomy.tv is a suite of 3D interactive models of human anatomy and pathology. Users may zoom, rotate and peel away layers to learn or visually communicate anatomical structures and kinetic functions.

The nine anatomy modules consist of Foot, Hand & Forearm, Head & Nec, Hip, Knee, Pelvis & Perineum, Shoulder, Spine, Thorax and Abdomen. Each module has multiple Layers or Views and all come with MRIs and quizzes. Depending on the module, there may also be 3D animations, slides, videos, or X-rays. The interactive functional anatomy module provides a full skeleton with content on bones, ligaments and muscles. The accompanying text highlights attachments, innervations, blood supply, primary actions, gross motor movement and common injuries/pathologies.

New Database: Anthrosource

Developed by the American Anthropological Association (AAA), AnthroSource brings 100 years of anthropological material online to scholars, including:

• Current issues for 15 of the AAA publications, such as American Anthropologist, American Ethnologist, Anthropology and Education Quarterly, and Medical Anthropology Quarterly.
• An electronic archive of all AAA journals. Coverage is from volume 1 to the last available issue.

NEW: Chicago Manual of Style Online

Chicago Manual of New Style is now available online via Alkek Library databases. The resources contains the full text of the 15th edition of the manual plus the popular Chicago Style Q&A. The Quick Guide provides practical examples of Chicago-style citations in a concise format.

Online Access to Oxford Dictionaries

The Library has just added Oxford Language Dictionaries Online, a new database providing instant access to Oxford’s top-of-the-line, unabridged bilingual dictionaries.

Initially, the database includes the following dictionaries:

French-English; English-French (The Oxford-Hachette French Dictionary, Fourth edition)
German-English; English-German (The Oxford-Duden German Dictionary, Third edition)
Italian-English; English-Italian (The Oxford-Paravia Italian Dictionary, Second edition)
Spanish-English; English-Spanish (The Oxford Spanish Dictionary)

Also included are correspondence templates for sample letters, emails, and resumes to provide practical help with writing.

covers a variety of computer and Internet law issues, including intellectual property, software licensing, computer crime, privacy and security, electronic commerce and online contracts. The database contains laws, proposed legislation, significant court decisions, sample internet agreements, as well as news and current commentary.

Education Research Complete from Ebsco
covers all levels of education from early childhood to higher education, and all educational specialties, such as multilingual education, health education, and testing. It includes curriculum instruction as well as administration, policy, funding, and related social issues.

Educational Administration Abstracts from Ebsco
indexes and abstracts journal literature on all aspects of educational administration. This is a multidisciplinary database providing access to scholarly, trade, and general-interest periodicals. Full-text is available in the database for approx. 40% of the articles. Includes newspapers, newswire services, magazines, podcasts, and transcripts NPR, CNN, and the CBC. Includes full text coverage of the New York Times back to 1995. Integrates with Web of Science® and Journal Citation Reports®. 1980 Coverage: 1980 - present.

Birds of North America Online from Cornell Lab of Ornithology
The Birds of North America Online is an online version of the 18-volume print series, the Birds of North America. It provides detailed scientific information covering the life histories of the 716 species of birds nesting in the USA and Canada. BNA Online will be updated frequently, with contributions from researchers, citizen scientists, and designated reviewers and editors. In addition, BNA Online will build image and video galleries showing behaviors, habitat, nests, eggs and nestlings. Each online species account will contain recordings of that bird's songs and calls, selected from Cornell's Macaulay Library of Natural Sounds.

ebrary Academic Complete from ebrary
ebrary is a collection of approx. 30,000 fully searchable full-text online books and maps. Download of the ebrary reader is required the first time you connect to the service. The download is automatic and only takes a minute. ebrary allows you to create a Personal Bookshelf to save, annotate, and highlight your favorite books. ETS TestLink from Educational Testing Service
ETS TestLink is an index to the ETS Test Collection, a microfilm library of more than 25,000 tests, standardized tests, research instruments, and other measurement devices. Collected from the early 1900s to the present, the ETS Test Collection is the largest such compilation in the world. The tests in this collection were acquired from a variety of U.S. publishers and individual test authors. Foreign tests are also included in the collection, including some from Canada, Great Britain, and Australia. The microfilm ETS Test Collection is kept on the 3rd floor of the Library in the microfilm shelving area of Periodicals.

Europa World Plus from Routledge
Europa World Plus combines Europa World Year Book and the nine Europa Regional Surveys of the World into one database. It provides regularly updated economic, political and geographic background information and statistical data by country, and includes thousands of directory contact details with web links and a comprehensive listing of some 1,900 international organizations. Multinational statistics can be compared directly in graph and tabular form. Also includes interactive maps, flags and downloadable graphs.
