Texas State University Emergency Response Policy

In the wake of the tragedy at Virginia Tech, President Trauth sent out the following email to faculty, staff, and students. For those of you who may not check your email, I have copied the email below:
Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students:

Earlier this week, the Virginia Tech campus suffered an unimaginable loss when any members of the campus community were slain and many others were injured in a enseless act of violence. All Americans were touched by this event, but those of us in higher education feel a special kinship with our colleagues at Virginia Tech.

Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the entire community of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University who lost students, faculty, and staff on Monday, April 16, 2007. A memorial service honoring students, faculty, and staff who lost their lives at Virginia Tech will be held on Thursday, April 19, at 10:50 am in the Quad in front of the Stallions. In addition, students have an opportunity to share their condolences with the Virginia Tech community. Banners have been posted on the Paseo of the LBJ Student Center and students, faculty, and staff at Texas State are encouraged to write messages which will be sent to Virginia Tech.

With these tragic events at Virginia Tech, we know many of you want to know what Texas State’s response would be if a similar incident happened on our campus.

Texas State has systems in place for responding to a crisis situation. The University Policy and Procedure Statement 05.04.03, Emergency Operations outlines the steps that will be taken in the event of a crisis, and the Crisis Response Team is poised to react quickly to any crisis. In the aftermath of this crisis, the Crisis Response Team has already met to review existing policies and procedures and to ensure that an appropriate response will occur should a crisis occur at Texas State.

You may access information about our Emergency Operations and Crisis Management Plan at www.txstate.edu/effective/upps/upps-05-04-03.html.
Please report any suspicious activity or persons immediately to the
University Police

You can renew books and check the due date for items to be returned. You can also view your reading history, modify preferred searches and change your personal information.

This is a long awaited feature for the students, faculty and staff of Texas State University. To login go to the library catalog and look for the "my account" link in the top right corner.
