Librarians on Facebook & MySpace
Last Semester, a few Alkek librarians created profiles on Facebook and MySpace as a way of reaching out to the Texas State community and to network with others on theses spaces. Facebook is somewhat stricter in how someone can set up an account. You have to be yourself and not an entity. So my Facebook presence is dedicated to relaying news and events taking place at the library. For example the Southwestern Writers Collection is launching the publication of Hecho en Tejas: An Anthology of Texas Mexican Literature which will be taking place on February 10. You can also find information about upcoming workshops that are open to anyone who is interested in the topic, and varies from semester to semester.
The library MySpace presence is moderated by another librarian, Lorin, who also has an individual account on both Websites. Our goal is to let students know that we are individuals with varied interests, (not the typical stereotypes!) and who are approachable no matter where you are. We offer research tips and search techniques that can make the research process less frustrating and more reliable. There are links to ways you can ask for help and more. Add us as a friend and be informed!
